OVERVIEW

In 2019, major mobile telecommunications service providers in Vietnam have implemented the test of new-generation mobile network - 5G and also achieved some positive results. According to Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Vietnam will commercialize 5G network in 2020. This is one of the pioneering and resolute steps to achieve the goal of becoming one of the leading countries in developing 5G infrastructure in the region and beyond, becoming the pioneer of the unification of telecommunications technology infrastructure of the Mekong sub-region countries in particular and Southeast Asia in general according to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s proposal. In parallel with the development of new generation mobile networks, Vietnam also pays special attention to the development of other telecommunications connection infrastructure and considers the development of telecommunications infrastructure as a decisive factor in creating an opportunity to integrate into the 4.0 Industrial Revolution. In fact, the potential of connecting and developing telecommunication services, both mobile and fixed, in Vietnam is enormous. According to data of the Department of Telecommunications, by the end of October 2019, the total number of fixed broadband subscribers exceeded 14.4 million subscribers; The number of mobile broadband subscribers generating traffic reached over 61 million. The total capacity of domestic internet connections is more than 2.7 million Mbps and the total capacity of international connections is more than 7.5 million Mbps. However, in the context of Vietnam, businesses and organizations are actively transforming numbers towards a comprehensive digital and digital economy by 2030 according to the project of national digital transformation.
